This morning started at 4:30 am when Dave and I snuck into Jake's bedroom to put presents on his bed (a tradition Dave remembers from his childhood!) and place his new bike for a morning birthday surprise. At 5:30 I heard the floor creak as Jake walked into our bedroom, stood by my side and whispered "Mom - come 'ere. There's bike in my room!" Sweet words for a mom to wake up to!!
From the moment he got on that bike, we knew it was a hit. He rode it all morning around the house and then in the afternoon under the carport. When he woke up from his nap the first thing he said was, "I want to ride my bike!" He rode it all the way to his Uncle Tim's house - a half a mile each way! And then after our special birthday dinner out, he rode around the neighborhood with Daddy while Coop and I tried to keep up walking.
Our evening ended with Jake ... aka Evel Knievel ... going full speed down our dangerously steep driveway. He loved every second of it and had NO FEAR screaming "Did you SEE THAT?" each time he got to the bottom. My goodness. What have we done?!
It was an awesome birthday for our little man. My first baby. Where does the time go?!
